By doing so, they are widening the enrollment section for foreign students. An official told ToI that the foreign candidates would have to first pass the JEE advanced examination to qualify for an IIT seat. The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in engineering) exam, which is a necessity for entrance into MTech courses is also to be held in 6 countries. He also cleared the confusion over what it would mean for the Indian students and said that the induction of foreign students would not provide the Indian students with fewer seats. The 10% addition, is an addition to the already existing number of seats available in all of the 23 IITs. He also said that 20,000 more candidates would be made eligible to write the paper after passing the JEE main, and thus getting the number to 2,20,000.

In another very important change by the IIT, the cut-off aggregate marks in Class XII for the SC and SC candidates has been reduced to 65% from 70% in the JEE advanced exams 2017. He informed that certain features such as video tutorials and SMS services are being planned to be extensively used to help the candidates. He said that beginning next year, latecomers in matters of registration for the IIT-JEE advanced exam are to be charged an extra fee of Rs 500.
