Tips, Tricks and important details regarding AIMA MAT September 2014

With the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) examinations just around the corner, it's time to brush up your knowledge regarding its syllabus, examination pattern and last minute tips and tricks. MAT scores will help you in admission to management programmes and MBA courses in over 600 institutes within India and a few international institutes as well. Here are some tips to help you score.
The paper-based examination will be conducted on September 7 and the computer-based examination on September 14. Candidates are required to at least possess a Bachelor's degree. All India Management Association (AIMA) conducts this test four times a year, in February, May, September and December.


There are five papers in MAT examination. They are Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, Indian & Global Environment Section. All the sections carry 40 marks.
Paper Pattern
The test is divided into five sections of objective, multiple-choice questions. Each section will contain 40 questions.
Language Comprehension: Time suggested 30 minutes
Mathematical Skills: Time suggested 40 minutes
Data Analysis and Sufficiency: Time suggested 35 mins
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning: Time suggested 30 minutes
Indian and Global Environment: Time suggested 15 minutes
Total: 150 minutes
Tips
  • Practice sample papers/previous year papers as much as possible and remember to check the answers so you are able to find your weak areas. 
  • Revise topics you make errors in.
  • Read general knowledge capsules from almanacs.
  • Read and reread mathematics formulae.
  • Keep at least an hour a day to practise calculations and approximations.
  • Watch the news. This will help you with language skills and with general knowledge.
  • Practise sample papers within the timeframe you will have at the examination. This will help you get used to answering question papers at that time of day.
  • If you get stressed, take deep breaths and then continue your studies

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a standardised test being administered since 1988 to facilitate business schools (B-Schools) to screen candidates for admission to MBA and allied programmes. The government of India, Ministry of HRD, approved MAT as a national level test in 2003.
