Smriti Irani, HRD Minister has issued an order to add moral value in educating school children. On May 6, moral and civic education was made compulsory to all CBSE affiliated schools and colleges by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development.
The HRD Ministry's press release said that all National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks would have themes and examples reflecting moral conduct.
The syllabus will introduce value education. Additionally, NCERT has created a resource book for teachers called the 'Ways to Peace'. The students would be assessed on these new subjects in the final exams, as per the release.
UGC will fund various programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels regarding human rights and value education in universities and colleges. However, autonomous universities are free to come up with their own syllabus and curriculum.
Another development in the field of education is the joint seat allocation for admissions to IITs, NITs and IIITs. There are a total of 81 such institutions and other centrally funded technical institutions that offer 32,000 seats across the country on one platform for the students.
HRD has come out with a lot of major changes for the academic year 2015-16, another one would be to offer all courses online instead of individual process by institutes. National Informatics Centre will be hosting the site for online joint seat allocation.
