National Law University admissions 2014 open

The National Law University (NLU) invites applications for admission to B.A., L.L.B. (Hons.), L.L.M. and Ph.D. programs for the academic year 2014-15 to commence from August 2014.  

Admission Details:

1.    B.A., L.L.B. (Hons.) (Five years programmes)

Eligibility: The candidate should have qualified the Senior Secondary school Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination with at least 50% marks. The candidates appearing in March/ April 2014 can also apply.
Age: The candidates should be below the age of 21 years as on 1st July, 2014. (23 years in case of SC/ ST candidates)

Kendriya Vidyalaya laboratories to be upgraded

NEW DELHI: In order to make practicals even more hands-on and state-of-the-art, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is modernizing science and mathematics laboratories in its schools at Rs 110 crore. The project deadline is 2015. The first phase will cover laboratories of 250 schools by June 2014. KVS is also planning to set up language laboratories and introduce French and Chinese from this year. All laboratories across 1,100 Kendriya Vidyalayas will be modernized by 2015. Speaking to TOI, KVS commissioner Avinash Dikshit said modernizing of school laboratories will be one of the major activities of the Sangathan this financial year. "The target is to cover 250 schools spread across the region by June 2014," he said.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has always strived to make examinations less stressful for the students and they continue with this attempt by maintaining their toll-free helpline number: 1800-11-8002. In addition to providing help for students appearing in Class 10th and Class 12th board exams, aspirants appearing for the JEE Mains exam and CTET exam, both conducted by CBSE can also avail the free CBSE helpline facility. The free helpline is available 7 days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Medical, engineering entrance exams from April 21-24

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state medical and engineering entrance exams for 2014 will be held from April 21 to 24 in over 300 centres in the state, in addition to venues in Dubai, Delhi, Mumbai, Ranchi and Shillong. 

"This is the first time that examination centres are being introduced in Mumbai, Ranchi and Shillong. Unlike last year, there is no single national level examination this year for MBBS and BDS seats, hence the exam will be conducted by the state government itself," education minister P K Abdu Rabb said.

For preparing the rank list for engineering seats, the government will consider in equal ratio the score in the entrance test as well as qualifying exams, and standardize them.

Govt clears 10,000 more MBBS seats to address shortage of doctors

NEW DELHI: The Centre today cleared a proposal for increasing over 10,000 MBBS seats in government medical colleges across the country by upgrading them to help bring down the doctor-patient ratio.
Of the Rs 10,000 crore proposal, the Centre would bear Rs 7,500 crore and state/Union Territory's share will be Rs 2,500 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in its meeting today approved the Rs 10,000 crore proposal of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for upgradation of existing state government/central government medical colleges to increase the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) seats.
"This will result in the increase of about 10,000 seats at a total cost of Rs 10,000 crore, with a proposed central assistance share of Rs 7,500 crore and State/Union Territory share of Rs 2,500 crore," said a government release.
The funding pattern under the scheme will be 90:10 by Central and State Governments respectively for North Eastern states and special category states and in the ratio of 70:30 for other states.
The total cost of one MBBS seat is approximately Rs 1.20 crore.
The proposal is aimed at increasing the number of doctors to help bring down the doctor-patient ratio from the current 1:2000 to 1:1000.
At present, there are around 50,000 MBBS seats across the country and government is keen to increase them to address the issue of shortage of doctors.
Government is aiming at increasing the MBBS seats across the country to increase doctors for helping reduce the disease burden and work in the unserved areas of the country, especially in the rural hinterland.

AIPMT 2014 receipt of application confirmation page started

Applications have begun from December 1, 2013 and shall end on January 31, 2014. However the dates have come up when the applicants can check the status of receipt of the confirmation page of the AIPMT 2014 application form.
The next date for uploading the confirmation page of the receipts of applications is January 13, 2014. As per the records, on January 6, 2014 a total of 264548 confirmation pages of receipts of applications have been uploaded.
The receipt of the confirmation page of AIPMT 2014 applications would be hosted on Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) website. The Board has earlier announced that the efforts would be made to publish the status of the receipt of the confirmation pages on the official website within 15 days from the date of receipt of the same.

CBSE plans open book board exams

CHENNAI: The Central Board of Secondary Education is planning to hold open book tests for students sitting for the Class 10 and 12 boards. The board introduced open text-based assessment in select subjects for students of Classes 9 and 11 this academic year. For the first time in the country, school students will take such a test this March.
CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi said the board was "actively considering" inclusion of the open book component in the boards. "It will change the way teaching and learning happens in the classroom ," he said.
The board will discuss the feasibility of extending the reform to board exam students in February. "After the Class 9 and Class 11 students take the test, we will get feedback from students and consider their views as well," Joshi said.
