No more chapters and poems by foreign writers: Rajasthan government's new clause

No more chapters by foreign writers

So as to promote and give preference to Indian authors over the non-desi ones, the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE), has decided to replace most of the lessons and poems by foreign authors for Class1 to 12 with the Indian ones from the next academic session.
As per newspaper reports, according to the sources, the new guidelines form part of Rajasthan education minister Vasudev Devnani's concept of 'local to global', which has been conveyed to the textbook re-writing committee formed by him.
Chapters which are not compatible with 'local culture and value system' and are of no relevance  will be removed. For example, chapters on agricultural practices which are not prevalent will be replaced with exhaustive chapters on traditional agricultural norms in the state. New chapters are also being introduced by the committee so as to address social problems like skewed sex ratio and the like. The books will have a dedicated chapter on 'Save the Girl Child' campaign and few other stories will also showcase women empowerment.

Gujarat may come up with new entrance test for professional courses Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GujCET) doing away with Joint Entrance Test (JEE) which is compulsory for candidates for admissions in engineering and pharmacy.
According to a report published in The Times of India, the new process is being mulled after state education minister  Bhupendrasinh Chudasama received representations from students and school management to make JEE not compulsory for the admissions in these courses. The report also mentioned that this year the state had given admission to students who have not taken the JEE test.
Moreover, the government is also considering the opinion of various stakeholders including academicians and students.
There are many students who had to go out of the state to take up higher education. It may come up as a big relief to more than one lakh students in the state. However, students who are seeking admissions to the institutes outside the state will have to take JEE or other  national level tests.
