UGC recognized new CBSE subjects for classes XI & XII

The Central Board of Secondary Education has introduced various new academic subjects at Senior Secondary level (Classes XI & XII).The details of newly introduced subjects as academic electives are following:
  1. Knowledge Tradition and Practices of India (Code No. 073) has been introduced in the session 2012-2013 for Class XI with.the first Board Exam in March 2014.
  2. Legal Studies (Code No. 074) has been introduced in the session 2013-2014 for Class XI with the first Board Exam in March 2015.
  3. Human Rights and Gender Studies (Code No. 075) introduced in the session 2013-2014 for Class XI with the first Board Exam in March 2015.
  4. Theatre Studies (Code No. 078) has been introduced in the session 2013-2014 for Class XI with the first Board Exam in March 2015.
  5. NCC (Code No. 076) has been introduced in the session 2013-2014 for Class XI with the first Board Exam in March 2015.
  6. Heritage Crafts (Code No. 070) has been introduced in the session 2008-2009 for Class XI with the first Board Exam in March 2010.
  7. Graphic Design (Code No. 071) has been introduced in the session 2008-2009 for Class XI with the first Board exam in March 2010.
  8. Creative Writing and Translation Studies (Code No. 069) has been introduced in the session 2007-2008 for Class XI with the first Board exam in March 2009.
  9. Functional English (Code No. 101) has been introduced in the session 2003-2004 for Class XI with the first Board exam in 2005.
  10. Entrepreneurship (Code No. 066) has been introduced in the session 2001-2002 for Class XI with the first Board exam in March 2003.
  11. Bio-technology (Code No.045) has been introduced in the session 2002-2003 for Class XI with the first Board exam in March 2004.
  12. Fashion Studies (Code No.053) has been introduced in the session 2004-2005 for Class XI with the first Board exam in March 2006.
  13. Mass Media Studies (Code No.072) (Academic Elective) has been introduced in 2010-2011 in Class XI with the first Board exam in March 2012.
It is imperative that these subjects may find a reflection in the subjects being offered at the graduate level in various Departments/Faculty/Colleges/ Institutes/ Universities under your jurisdiction. Vertical mobility for these innovative subjects needs to be provided for. It is essential that these subjects should be considered properly while admitting them to the undergraduate courses at the college/ University level. The syllabus of all these subjects is available on the website under the tab- ‘Publications- Curriculum Document- 2015, Senior Secondary Vol. I.

The Scheme of Studies for all these academic subjects is rigorous in nature and designed specially with the industry and employability avenues in mind.

This may be brought to the .notice of all concerned units of your esteemed organisation, so that students face no difficulty when they pass out Class XII. The information bulletin/ Prospectus/Website or any other form of communication of your organisation may accommodate the names of these new academic subjects, so that the students may be treated as eligible for admission to higher education as per their preferences.
Accordingly all universities are requested to take appropriate action for recognition of these new subjects for the purpose of admission of students in degree programmes.
