Rajasthan engineering colleges to conduct direct admissions, no RPET from this year

The Rajasthan Pre-Engineering Test (RPET) will be discontinued from the 2015 academic session. Instead, the state government has decided to set up a Centralised Admission Committee (CAC), which will supervise the admissions to engineering colleges this year.
This committee includes experts from the field of technical education, who will be able to guide through the new admission process. This year 70 percent of the seats are reserved for students from Rajasthan, 15 percent seats have been allotted for management quota, and the remaining 15 percent will be filled by students from all over India.

50 percent of the seats reserved for students from Rajasthan will be filled through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE 2015) merit list and the other 50 percent will be filled through Class 12 Board exams merit list.
In order to avoid disparity between students of CBSE and Rajasthan Board (RBSE), the authorities will take the marks obtained by students in Class 12 Board examinations and use it to make a merit list based on the percentile formula.
A total of 154 colleges are affiliated to Rajasthan Technical University (RTU), and combined they offer 60,000 seats every year.
The Rajasthan government has implemented this decision to help the students. Usually they have to appear for two entrance examinations, but with discontinuing the RPET, the stress for students will decrease to a great extent. From the 2016-17 session the government plans on admitting students to engineering colleges solely on the basis of JEE merit list.
