CBSE launches 'Udaan 2015' to promote education for girls; Free online content for engineering aspirants

CBSE Udaan 2015

In an effort to shun the gender gap and the one that exists between school education and engineering entrances, the Central Board of Secondary Education has launched a special programme 'Udaan 2015' to mentor girl students. The main aim of the programme is to address the low ratio of enrolment of girl students in prestigious engineering institutes and also provide them with timely incentives.
Udaan, through an online medium will assist the girl students in Class 11 and Class 12 and provide them with a comprehensive platform to pursue higher education in engineering. The candidates selected will be receiving online preparatory course and tutorials, virtual contact classes at around 60 designated centres and a financial aid of Rs 6,000 to purchase tablets for the same. To keep the students amply motivated throughout the programme, organisational and motivational speeches amongst parents and peers will be conducted, as well.
The interested girl students can apply if they fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
  • The candidate should have scored a minimum of 70 percent marks in Class 10 overall, along with 80 percent marks in each Science and Mathematics. For those following the grading system, a minimum CGPA of 8 and a GPA of 9 is required in the two subjects.
  • The candidate must be enrolled in Class 11 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • The family income of the candidate should be less than 6 lakhs per annum.
The candidates will be selected against the city option made by the candidate for the weekly personnel contact classes. Before embarking on the programme, the selected students will undergo a technology orientation session at their respective city centres to make them technology friendly and get comfortable with using the tablet and the online portal.
The last date to submit applications is August 3.
The tagline of the programme promises to 'give wings to girl students.'
