The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has recommended that the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) make this change in the eligibility criteria for admission to the NITs, an official told The Hindu.
It is now up to the CSAB to take a final call on this, though the body – which is responsible for seat allocation for the NITs – is known to go by the government’s advice.

1. The decision of fee hike put on hold.
Smriti Irani has put the decision to hike the fee on hold. According to Times Of India report, she had said that the issue of fee hike was sensitive and ministry cannot rush through it. However, no timeline has been fixed to take a decision on this issue.

JEE Main 2015: CSAB extends deadline to fill up NIT, IIT seats

IIT NIT Deadlines extended

The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), in order to give a fair chance to meritorious students has extended the deadline to fill up vacant seats in NITs, IITs and other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) to August 17.
The seats will be granted to the candidates who do not have a seat in the joint allocation process along with those who have JEE (Main) ranks and are without seats, too. Many parents and students are unhappy with  the situation since the process will now be granting another chance to students who have already been one.
A special round of allotment was announced after more than 3,000 seats were vacant post the  fourth round of seat allocation. While most seats are vacant in unpopular courses, many in popular ones, such as computer science and engineering, mechanical, electrical and civil are also empty, which is the bone of contention for many aspirants. The major reason for this is the candidates with higher ranks who had blocked these seats but later on did not report to take admission against the same.

JEE Main 2015: CSAB to declare seat allotment results for NITs, IITs and GFTIs today

JEE Main 2015

The Central Seat Allotment Board (CSAB) is conducting a special round of counselling for admissions to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. The counselling is being conducted for admissions to technical institutes under the JEE Main 2015. This seat allotment process is being held for the seats that were left vacant after the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) concluded the joint seat allocation process.
More than 3,000 seats were vacant after JoSAA conducted its fourth round of seat allocation, this happened because the candidates with higher ranks had blocked these seats but later on did not report to take admission against the same. Thus, the board decided to fill these seats through a special round of seat allotment. The vacant seats are available in courses such as Computer Science, Communication Engineering and Electronics, amongst others.
The candidates were to download the e-challan and pay a fee of Rs 45,000 before they can register online, the candidates under the reserved categories had to pay a fee of Rs 20,000.
The candidates were allowed to deposit the fee and fill and save their choice of course and college online by August 11. The results of the seat allotment will be declared today, the selected candidates are required to report to their respective institutes from August 12 to 14.
The candidates who fail to report to the institute allotted to them will lose their seat, and the initial fee paid by them will be forfeited.

However, the authorities have decided to extend this date up till July 28. This is the first time that a joint seat allocation is being conducted for admissions to all IITs and NITs. The students need to qualify JEE Main Paper I and Paper II in order to be eligible for admissions to NITs, and as for the admissions to IITs, they are required to clear both, JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
The students who get a seat are required to report to their respective centres for admission to IITs and NITs. If the candidates fail to do so, then they will be excluded from the admission process and won't be eligible to participate in the subsequent allotment rounds either.

JEE Advanced: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering emerge the most sought-after courses at IITs

IIT admissions 2015

The courses Computer Science and Electrical Engineering have emerged as the most popular courses among the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) aspirants.
There are a total of 990 seats available for Computer Science across the 18 IITs, for which 2.09 lakh applications have been submitted. This means that there are 209 candidates competing for each seat.
This is the first time that a joint seat allocation is being conducted for admissions to all IITs and NITs. After Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering were the most popular choices among the students.
Over the years, Mechanical Engineering has been the most sought-after course. However, placements at prestigious organisations, challenging projects and high salaries by companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter etc. have drawn students to Computer Science.

2. Out of these, 26,597 candidates accepted the seat allotted to them. This resulted in overall vacancy of 7,383 seats at the end of round one of JoSAA 2015.
3.  These vacant seats were allocated in the round two by using the NIC and IIT Kanpur implementations of the DA algorithm based on the filled-in choices by the candidates prior to round one, and their category-wise all India ranks in JEE Main 2015 Paper 1, JEE  Main 2015 Paper 2 and JEE Advanced 2015.
4. The round two allotment output from the NIC and IIT Kanpur implementations matched with each other. In addition, these allocations were validated for compliance of all the business rules by the testing and validation teams from IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Guwahati. It was found that the allocations comply with all the business rules.
5. In view of the above, NIC has published the joint seat allocations 2015 for round two on JoSAA portal on July 13, as per schedule.

JEE Main 2015 ranks rise after Class 12 marks revised

JEE Main ranks

On Friday, the students who appeared for JEE Main 2015 could see their revised ranks. The students' Class 12 scores increased after the re-evaluation, which led to an increase in their ranks by a margin of few hundred and even thousands in some cases.
Though the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) did not release any official notification regarding the revised rank list, the students were able to view their new ranks.
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) ensured students that they will be allotted seats according to their merit and revised ranks. For this, the students should have filled-in their choices of courses and colleges in a decreasing order of preferences.
However, as the students had mentioned their options in accordance with their original ranks, they are not sure if they'll be allotted a better seat now. This is because the first round of allotment had been concluded by the time the revised ranks were released, and the students are not permitted a second chance to fill-in their choices.

No common counselling round for IITs, NITs this year

MUMBAI: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) will not have a common counselling round this year. In a meeting held on February 5, the ministry of human resources development decided to have the process similar to that of last year's, putting to rest the confusion over common counselling round for admission to the centrally-funded technical institutes.

The meeting was attended by representatives from IITs, NITs, CBSE, which conducts JEE (main), and the ministry.

"It has been decided that this year none of the processes will be disturbed. NITs will have their own counselling round, while IITs will conduct theirs. The common round might be implemented from next year after a feasibility study," said a senior official.

IIT test for common counselling

The government has asked the Indian Institutes of Technology and the National Institutes of Technology to hold common counselling from this year to minimise seats going vacant at these engineering colleges.
But the 16 IITs, a notch above the 30 NITs in the pecking order, had defeated such a plan last year and are expected to oppose the latest Union human resource development ministry directive, too.
Over 600 seats had remained unoccupied in these tech schools last year, apparently because of separate counselling which allows a candidate to receive offers from an IIT and an NIT at the same time.
