JEE Main 2015: CSAB extends deadline to fill up NIT, IIT seats

IIT NIT Deadlines extended

The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), in order to give a fair chance to meritorious students has extended the deadline to fill up vacant seats in NITs, IITs and other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) to August 17.
The seats will be granted to the candidates who do not have a seat in the joint allocation process along with those who have JEE (Main) ranks and are without seats, too. Many parents and students are unhappy with  the situation since the process will now be granting another chance to students who have already been one.
A special round of allotment was announced after more than 3,000 seats were vacant post the  fourth round of seat allocation. While most seats are vacant in unpopular courses, many in popular ones, such as computer science and engineering, mechanical, electrical and civil are also empty, which is the bone of contention for many aspirants. The major reason for this is the candidates with higher ranks who had blocked these seats but later on did not report to take admission against the same.

There have apparently been more than 10,000 applications in the three-day window for the special round. The candidates had to download an E-Challan and pay a fee of Rs 45,000 before they could register online. The initial fee paid by the students will be forfeited if they fail to report to the assigned institutes.
