New Centre to come up in West Bengal to nurture Young Scientists

To set up an Innovation centre aiming at nurturing young scientists, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 5 crore to the city’s Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS).
JBNSTS has been granted a status of “special institution” from the state government and it has been working towards the identification of young talents in the field of science for long. The body was founded way back in 1958 and since then it has helped many young scientists to find their way towards future in the field of science, medicine and engineering. The aim of the centre is to nurture and develop future scientists and technologists. Students have long been associated with JBNSTS and have come out successfully with the infrastructural support and faculty support that they have got from the centre. It has, for years, aggravated the students to take up science as their interest area and developed their skills for the betterment of the society at large. There are many success stories that have already been registered due to the active participation of this centre in the young scientists of potential.

According to Mamata Banarjee, “In order to promote science and encourage children to take up scientific activities, we have decided to give Rs. 5 crore to JBNSTS for setting up an innovation centre.” The money would reach the institute in two installments and the education department of the state would handle the affairs regarding this matter in future.
