JEE Advanced 2014: Last minute tips to score better

JEE Advanced 2014 is all set to be conducted to be on May 25, 2014. The exam is expected to be taken by students who secured a rank in the top 1,50,000 in JEE Main this year. However, according to reports, 2600 aspirants who cleared the exam choose not to register for the exam. 

The exam will be held in two phases - Paper-1 which will be conducted from 9 am to 12 pm and Paper-2 which is scheduled to be conducted from 2 pm to 5 pm. The results of the exam are expected to be out on June 19, 2014.

To help you score better in the exam,some last minute tips that students should adhere to:
  1. If you have good command over 70% of IIT-JEE[JEE-Advanced] syllabus, then you can be sure about your success, provided you convert your knowledge into score during those 6 hours.
  1. Prepare short notes of formulas, theorems, important chemical reactions and diagrams for last days’ revision.

  1. Start concentrating on the topics that you have covered rather wasting time on new topics particularly when exam is just 10 days ahead. You should look at breadth rather than depth in these 10 days.

  1. While attempting questions, go on segregating them by the a[right] ¢[circle] r[cross] method
a:These questions are from topics that you have prepared well, and you can clearly comprehend the meaning of these questions. You have done questions containing similar concept earlier and you are confident that you will be able to solve these.
¢ : You know you can solve these questions but they are time-consuming, nevertheless you are confident you will be able to crack them when you come back to them. These questions should be attempted in the second round of question attempting, i.e. when you have solved all questions marked with an a[Right]
r :You don't know head or tail of these questions and you should not waste time attempting them.
  1. Don’t prepare any new topic in last minute.

  1. Don’t plan to revise complete syllabus in last 2 days. You have already studied for 2 years and now you have to just perform well inside the exam hall.

  1. Just go through the past papers of IIT-JEE, it will boost your confidence that you would get selected.

  1. Make sure you are going to bed by 11 pm in last 2 days and get up by 7.00 am.

  1. Reach the examination centre 30 minutes before.

  1. After getting the question paper, have confidence in yourself, then start attempting the easy questions. After that try to attempt the difficult questions.

  1. Don’t waste much time on only one specific question and leave the question that you   feel difficult.

  1. Keep filling the OMR Sheet at regular intervals.

  1. There is negative marking in IIT-JEE Exam. So it is suggested that do not attempt the questions that you are not sure. It is always better to leave such questions rather than taking chance.

  1. Give one or two minutes for yourself at regular intervals, drink water and do not take excessive stress.


  1.  In these type of selection exams the cut off marks are very low, so one should try to concentrate on accuracy to answer the questions rather than just on speed of solving them. This is the only key for success in this examination.
