CAT 2015: Changes in the exam

CAT 2015

On July 26, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) has released the official notification of Common Admission Test (CAT) 2015.  As per the notification, CAT will go through a few changes, this year.
This year onward, a new section has been introduced i.e. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DLIR). The candidates must note that they cannot switch the sections from one to another; the candidates are required to spend 60 minutes on each section.
According to a report in the Times of India, the professor of IIM Ahmedabad, Tathagata Bandopadhyay informed, "Last year, data interpretation (DI) was a part of QA and logical reasoning was part of VRC. However, the number of questions from each section will remain the same as last year. The decision has been taken since the three sections are supposed to test different abilities of the candidates."
This time, the duration of the examination has also been increased to 180 minutes instead of 170 minutes. He further added, "The reason behind increasing the duration by 10 minutes is to allot equal time (60 minutes) to each section. This year, the students will be given exactly an hour to complete each section. The test will automatically move to the next section once a candidate spends an hour on one segment". In order of selection, the candidates can select the four test cities. The test will be held at 650 centres across 136 cities on the same day in two sessions.
The major change in the examination process is the introduction of written answers. Last year, CAT was completely based on multiple choice based questions, but this year, some questions may not be having multiple choices. Tutorial to understand the format of the examination will be available on the official website from October 15.

AIPMT 2015: Rohtak not an exam centre anymore

Rohtak not an AIPMT centre now

Keeping in mind the All-India Pre-Dental and Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) paper leak incident in Rohtak, the CBSE has now decided to not keep it as an examination centre on July 25.
As many as 700 students received answer keys through mobile phones during the exam held on May 3, out which four members of the gang from the city were nabbed by a police team under the supervision of Rohtak range inspector Shrikant Jadhav. The police have not been informed about the reasons and is neither aware of the student's centre for the re-examination, this time. The candidates who will appear for the AIPMT will be receiving details such as centre of examination and roll numbers through E-mail and SMS.
The candidates, on the day of the exam, will have to undergo strict frisking measures before the exam commences. The invigilators have been instructed to check the ears of all the candidates with the help of torchlight. This practice will ensure that no communication device such as a Bluetooth is carried inside any examination hall.

AIPMT 2015: Two muslim students allowed to wear hijab by the HC

Muslim students allowed to wear hijab

The Central Board of Secondary Education has allowed two Muslim girls to wear headscarves and full-sleeved dresses on the day of the AIPMT re-test, according to a directive by the Kerala High Court. . The exam is scheduled to be held on June 25. This decision came after the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat  and two girls wrote a petition on the ban on hijab, as it is culturally unacceptable to go out in public in a different set of clothes.
The decision has been drawn in favour of Asiya Abdul Karim of Ashokapuram in Kozhikode and Nadha Rahim of Olavakkode in Palakkad. The court has, however, instructed women invigilators to be present with the candidates, half an hour prior to the commencement of the exam.
In the petition filed through advocate PK Ibrahim, Asiya had contended that the new dress code would act as a deterrent for pious Muslim girls from opting for Medical courses. The candidates have thus been allowed to wear headscarves and full-sleeve dresses, only if they report early for a body search by women personnel, the petition had stated.
