Priority to be given in Class 12 revaluation for IIT aspirants

Priority to be given to Class 12 revaluation

The HRD (Human Resource Development) ministry has asked the state education boards to give priority to the revaluation applications of Class 12 students who aspire to be an engineer so that they get an equal shot in India's  top engineering colleges including IITs.
According to newspaper reports, there have been instances where after the revaluation, students' scores have improved dramatically, affecting their overall ranking. If the revaluation of Class 12 papers of engineering aspirants is delayed, they miss the opportunity to secure admission to reputed colleges. The marks obtained by students in Class 12 have a huge impact in getting admissions in IITs and NITs as 40 percent weightage is given to board scores. Millions of students take the joint entrance examination, or JEE, every year for admissions to NITs and other colleges.

In a meeting held by the ministry, the states have been ordered to declare Class 12 results before May 31 so that admissions to engineering colleges were not delayed. Million of students appear for JEE entrance examination every year for obtaining admission to NITS and other centrally-funded colleges.
This suggestion has been welcomed by most of the state boards,  and once the Centre receives a written consent from them, the same will be implemented. As per officials, if the score will be improved after finishing revaluation process that score effects entire ranking of the students. The HRD ministry official added that this issue is yet to be finalised but ministry suggested that boards can give priority to such students so their result can be confirmed before submission to JEE.
