UGC grants Aligarh Muslim University funds for vocational degree course

University Grants Commission has granted Aligarh Muslim University around Rs 185 lakh to launch a Bachelor's Degree in vocational training. Currently, Aligarh Muslim university  offers vocational diploma course and community development vocational courses under its polytechnic.

Diploma courses are:

1. Architectural Assistant
2. Civil Engineering
3. Computer Engineering
4. Construction Technology
5. Electrical Engineering
6. Electronics Engineering
7. Food Technology
8. Footwear and Leather Technology
9. Instrumentation and Controls
10. Interior Design
11. Mechanical Engineering
12. Plastic Technology
13. Production Engineering
14. Refrigeration and Air-conditioning 


Community Development vocational programmes are:

1. Building Drawing and Construction Supervision
2. Diesel Engine Mechanic
3. Electrician
4. Embroidery Works (for girls)
5. Fashion Garments (for girls)
6. Inverter and Battery Making
7. Jam, Jelly and Achar Making (for girls and boys both)
8. M. S. Office (for girls and boys both)
9. Mobile Repairing
10. Plumbing and Sanitary Works
11. Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
12. Shoe Stitching Operator
The University Grants Commission also sanctioned Rs.81 lakh for an advanced diploma in computerised shoe designing reports IANS.
The first "Shoe Fashion Studio" in northern India was established at the AMU Polytechnic, which facilitates latest technology to students as well as to the shoe industry.
UGC joint secretary K.P. Singh said the commission has established 102 community colleges to make higher education relevant to the learner and the community and to integrate relevant skills into the higher education system.
