University of Hyderabad admissions to go online from next year

University of Hyderabad admissions to go online from next year

HYDERABAD: Admissions in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) will be conducted online from the next academic year, Appa Rao Podile, the new vice chancellor (VC), announced on Tuesday.

At present, only the finance department of the varsity is partially functioning on e-governance. However, from next academic year, not only admissions but services such as certificate verification, filling of examination forms etc. would go online, said the VC. "The funds given by the University Grants Commission will be utilised for making all the processes online," said Rao.

The university also plans to introduce Master in Education course from next year. "We are in the process of framing the syllabus for the course. Once it is done, the admissions will be open for aspiring students," said Rao.

To improve quality of education and research in various departments, the university will fill up the sanctioned posts in various departments. "At present, we have more than 420 teachers on campus. However, 100 more teachers will be recruited next year," said Rao.

The university was in the news recently for protests against dress code for convocation, intrusive police presence on campus, illegal raids, delayed fellowships etc. With the university's 17th convocation scheduled on Thursday, the new VC clarified that the traditional dress code is not mandatory.

He also clarified on the police presence on campus. "Since there is a shorter route via UoH between Gachibowli and Gopanpalli, there is police presence. However, I will ensure that it is not intrusive for students," said Rao.

The VC also promised to strengthen the proctorial board in order to resolve issues related to teachers and students. "It was an unfortunate incident where illegal raids were conducted at a professor's house on campus. The proctorial board will be strengthened so that such incidents don't occur in future," said the VC.
